About Brookfield in Japan

Japan is a strategically important market for Brookfield and we opened our Tokyo office in 2015. We have approximately 150 client relationships including with some of Japan’s largest and most influential investors. We are active in seeking opportunities to invest in real estate, infrastructure, renewable power, private equity, credit and insurance and have also expanded into private wealth.

In 2024, we completed two real estate transactions in Japan worth a cumulative US$1.6 billion including a strategic stake in Gajoen, a sizeable mixed-use complex in central Tokyo, and a logistics development project in Greater Nagoya.

Luke Edwards

Head of Japan; Managing Partner, Renewable Power and Transition

Representative Director, Brookfield Japan K.K.

Luke Edwards is Head of Australia and New Zealand for Brookfield’s Renewable Power & Transition Group. He is also Head of Japan for Brookfield. In these roles, Mr. Edwards is responsible for the growth and management of renewable power and transition investments in Australia and New Zealand, as well as Brookfield’s overall growth in Japan. Mr. Edwards has previously served in Brookfield’s Infrastructure business, where he focused on investment origination, analysis and execution.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2021, Mr. Edwards held various roles across engineering, commercial and investments sectors, including a director position at Citi. He has also held roles at Goldman Sachs in its power, utilities and infrastructure investment banking teams and has experience as a field engineer for Schlumberger in Brazil and Alaska.

Mr. Edwards holds Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Sydney.

Keiji Hattori is a Managing Director and Head of Japan for Brookfield’s Private Funds Group. In this role, Mr. Hattori is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with leading investors in Japan. Mr. Hattori is also a Representative Director of Brookfield Japan K.K.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2015, Mr. Hattori was at Credit Suisse’s private funds group, where he established Asia coverage and lead distribution activities across Asia. Prior to that, Mr. Hattori held various senior role as investment banker at global investment banks, as well as a founding member of a private equity fund in Japan. Mr. Hattori started his career in the audit practice of Ernst & Young.

Mr. Hattori holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Keio University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (U.S.) and a Board Member of The Organization of Global Financial City Tokyo (FinCity.Tokyo).

Taka Hirayama is a Managing Director in Brookfield’s Infrastructure Group. In this role, he is responsible for leading business development and transaction execution in Japan.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2023, Mr. Hirayama worked for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Goldman Sachs, ITOCHU Corporation and Sojitz Corporation where he was responsible for energy and infrastructure investments across Asia as well as the Middle East and Africa.

Mr. Hirayama holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Rochester and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Waseda University.

Tomohide Yokooka is a Managing Director and Head of Brookfield Wealth Solutions in Japan. In this role, Mr. Yokooka is responsible for establishing partnerships with insurance companies in Japan.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2024, Mr. Yokooka worked in M&A advisory and capital raising services for more than 20 years at Barclays, Citi and Goldman Sachs in Tokyo and New York.

Mr. Yokooka holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Michigan Ross School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics degree from Waseda University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Japan.

Ikushin Tsuchida

Ikushin Tsuchida

Managing Director, Real Estate

Ikushin Tsuchida is a Managing Director in Brookfield’s Real Estate business. In this role, he focuses on the sourcing, underwriting and execution of direct real estate and corporate real estate transactions, as well as capital partnering initiatives across Japan.

Prior to joining Brookfield, Mr. Tsuchida worked at Angelo Gordon where he oversaw real estate activities. Prior to that, he was involved in traditional asset investment activities for the Japanese pension accounts at Chuo Mitsui Asset Trust Bank.

Mr. Tsuchida holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Waseda University.
